Waukesha Choral Union Presents An Olde English Christmas

Waukesha, WI – The Waukesha Choral Union, Ernest Brusubardis, III music director, presents “An Olde English Christmas.” Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols” for choir, soloists, and harp, is the centerpiece of these concerts. They will also include traditional English carols, holiday favorites, and an audience sing-along. Performances are scheduled for Friday, December 10, 2010 8:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Church in Waukesha, and on Sunday, December 12, 2010 3:00 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Church, Oconomowoc.

“‘An Olde English Christmas,’ presented in two beautiful church settings, provides a wonderful way to celebrate Christmas,” said Brusubardis. “I invite everyone to experience these exciting live music performances.”

Any singer who wishes to participate in Handel’s “Messiah” is welcome to take part in this annual choral event. There will also be a silent auction to benefit the Waukesha Choral Union.

In the “All Beethoven Concert,” Waukesha Choral Union will present excerpts from the “Choral Mass in C,” and the “Choral Fantasy” for piano, orchestra and chorus.

“GIVE US PEACE”

Saturday, May 21, 2011 7:30 p.m. Oconomowoc Arts Center

Kirke Mechem’s “Songs of the Slave,” and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Dona nobis pacem,” invite reflection on the Civil War and its legacy. This collaborative concert combines the Waukesha Choral Union with the Bel Canto Chorus, Richard Hynson, music director, and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Edo de Waart, music director.

As the premiere vocal group in the area, the Waukesha Choral Union has been musically active in the community for over 50 years. Originally a combination of the Carroll College student chorus and community singers known as the Waukesha Choral Society in 1949, the group became the Town and Gown in 1961 and the Waukesha Choral Union in 1974, taking its present form as an auditioned choir in 1978.
